Surface preparation
The subfloor surface must be free of all residues (glue, paint, plaster, etc.). Rectify slight surface irregularities with a sander or scraper.
Board preparation
Prepare your starter boards by cutting several boards of different sizes (if your full board measures 4', cut 3 boards at 1', 2' and 3').
Prepare your spacers by taking a full-width board and cutting it into several 3” long pieces.
It's important to ensure that the first two rows are straight and square, as any imperfections can affect the entire installation.
Plank installation
Different click locking systems - Välinge 5G
Alower the plank/tile onto the floor, maintaining pressure, while ensuring that the end joints overlap and are perfectly aligned.
Press down so that the new plank/tile snaps into the plank/tile already laid.
Different click locking systems - Välinge 5Gi
Lower the plank/tile onto the floor, maintaining pressure while ensuring that the end joints overlap and are perfectly aligned.
Use a rubber mallet to tap the corner of the plank/tile directly onto the joint to engage it, then continue to hammer the rest of the plank/tile until it is engaged across the full width.
Different click locking systems - Angle to angle
Position the long side of the board/tile with the tongue over the groove of the board/tile in the previous row, then join the end of the new board/tile into the end of the previous board/tile.
Tilt the plank/tile and gently push it forward until it locks into the plank/tile of the previous row.
Installing the last row
For the last row, place a plank directly on top of the previously laid row.
Use the utility knife to cut your plank/tile to the required width.
Once you've installed all the planks/tiles, remove the spacers around the perimeter of the room and attach the finishing mouldings to the wall.
